Reading – Awaking knowledge and nurturing children’s inner soul

Nowadays, for people to keep up with the world’s continuous developing pace and become a knowledgeable, helpful citizen, reading has become a bridge connecting our current knowledge to the outside world. Reading is a pathway for students to form their self-learning conscious and retrieve knowledge in the best way possible. From there, our young generations can develop lifelong learning skills and promote a great mentality. However, with our Technology and Society’s extensive development on the rise, consistent reading habits from people are starting to decrease. Social media is a contributing factor competing against the norms with their catchy interfaces, it is like a breath of fresh air to the young generations. The youngsters experience the ease, spontaneity and latest news on these apps, all of which makes the reading-from-a-book habit seem boring and soon to be forgotten. Understanding this current perspective, UTS’s Primary teachers’ team is holding a range of activities to elicit and bring out the joy of reading for the students. Each week, students get excited about the Reading session in the school’s library. This seems like “a new land” for students to seek adventures inside the books’ pages. With our project “Connecting knowledge”, students have gone through many interesting, beneficial activities to nurture their love for reading.       1. Designing Bookmark activity: With the theme of “Inspiring” through every book page, students designed their own creative bookmarks, along with positive, encouraging messages to themselves. In addition, UTSer’s is also shown their creativity and ingenuity through each funny and cute product.       2. Designing Book cover activity: In this activity, students are able to select one of the choices: recreating the cover of their favorite comic or designing a new cover for a storybook they have read before. All of the students were incredibly

Experiential Learning: When learning is not only from book

At UTS we believe that every kid is a “unique seed” who deserves to grow up in his or her own way. We understand that our students need to be given the opportunity to learn in a way that is suitable for them while also respecting the differences in styles from our peers. Besides, not everyone is keen on traditional learning method. This motivate UTS to apply the “Experiential Learning”(ExL) to the curriculum, providing an alternative to traditional learning models, and here we will share many highlights of the “Experiential Learning” method with parents and students. 1. What is Experiential Learning? At its simplest, experiential learning (ExL) is the process of obtaining information and learning through experience, and can be further stripped down to simply be “learning through reflection on doing” (Patrick 2011: 1003). Unlike the ” hands-on learning “, ExL formally requires reflection, whereas hands-on learning is simply the act of doing something. ExL theory is different from other theories of learning, such as cognitive and behavioral learning, insofar as it is a much more holistic approach. It takes into account all of our experiences in our learning, including emotions, cognition, and environmental factors. It advocates for more depth in learning, rather than surface-level learning. Surface-level learning involves things like studying for an exam or memorizing information from a textbook – often this information is not retained well and is easily and commonly forgotten after the test. In contrast, deep learning typically involves learning a topic from multiple angles and approaches, from reading and experimenting to role-playing and discussion. 2. How the ExL model works? Operational model of the “Experiential learning” method 2.1: Experiencing: This can be a completely new experience or a re-imagining of an experience that has already happened. In each specific experience, you will each participate

Do Parents Know? – Create Home Space Help Your Child Comprehensive Development

In order for a plant to grow healthy, it certainly needs to be cared in the most appropriate and optimal environment. Children too, in order to be stable in the future, they need to be nurtured in the right environment. Understanding this, many families always want to invest in their children’s learning space at home to be more optimal, helping them have a comfortable and most suitable environment to grow up. So what is the best space for your child? Let’s discover here. Benefits of a suitable environment for children Many research on children around the world have proven that children living in a good environment will have more comprehensive physical and mental development. For example, a living environment close to nature creates conditions for children to increase physical activity, reduce eye diseases, obesity, respiratory or mental disorders. This is the reason motivating us to build Botanique Campus – a green school with open space and close to nature. Besides, the open living space with experiential activities is the premise to promote the intellectual development of children. Limiting exposure to electronic devices and instead having parents and children experience practical activities in art or scientific research will help children develop creativity and flexible thinking. So what is a suitable environment?  Here are six important environmental factors that affect a child’s growth: 1. Ensure security and safety Children’s nature is curious, they like to discover new things, so sometimes just because a few minutes of parents’ neglect, there will be situations that affect the safety of their children. Therefore, parents should choose apartments or houses with CCTV cameras, design infrastructure to ensure rescue, emergency exits, fire prevention, etc. to help quickly handle unexpected incidents that occur. . Notes on security and safety will never be superfluous so that parents can rest

Welcome to the new school year! Welcome “little seeds” back to school!

We thought the summer break would be long, but looking back, it’s already the first day of school. The first morning of the new school year 2022-2023 took place with a lot of emotions and gorgeous smiles of UTS–ers at the 2 campuses, UTS Van Lang Complex and UTS Botanique Campus. To welcome the old students back to school and especially welcome the new students to the close-knit UTS community, our enthusiastic teachers and school staff had planned and prepared a lot for this special day.  It was joyful to see the students and their families happily keeping memories at the school’s photo areas. Especially, right from the gate, students were warmly welcomed by their teachers and guided to their classrooms.   In the first lesson, the students were led by their homeroom teacher to explore the school’s campus and facilities. This is also a special activity to help them get to know their classmates and teachers. The students had a good time sharing their interests with their friends or telling their teachers about a fun summer they had.   Lunch time was well organized with the cooperation of the students and the help of the classroom support staff. New students quickly became familiar with the process of taking food vouchers and eating utensils, receiving food, and returning trays after meals correctly.  Afternoon classes with interesting lessons to help students get used to the learning environment and engagement in the classroom. This is also an opportunity for teachers to listen to the academic goals of students this school year.  The new school year 2022-2023 has officially started! The First English Play At UTS – Marking The Maturity Of UTS-ers On The Professional Stage

Even though a week has passed since the play “Snow White and the Seven Entrepreneurs” was performed – the actors, crew, and audiences may still be experiencing surprise and excitement. The UTS students’ clever acting and fluent English abilities in their first play, which emits an entirely different personality for characters who look familiar at first, are what made audiences surprised. The play’s compelling story has successfully conveyed to viewers the importance of staying determined to follow your passion despite obstacles. What is even more astounding is that, in addition to the superb players, the UTS students themselves serve as the “core personnel” who assist teachers at every stage of running the play and setting up the stage. Students have the chance to confidently express their love of art, grow as stage thinkers, improve their language abilities, and gain performance experience in front of crowd. Most importantly, 50% of the revenue from the concert night and associated activities will be donated to the Performing Arts Club Activities Fund, and the other half will support the School’s charitable activities. Once more, congrats to the UTS “talented seeds” for a job well done on their first English musical. Hopefully, UTS students will perform a lot more plays and important projects in the coming future.
